Hands-On Equations 1: The Fun Way to Learn Algebra(圖1)-速報App

Can your 8-year old solve the equations 4x + 3 = 3x + 9 and 2(2x +3 ) = x + 9? How about you? If not you need this app to see how easy and how much fun algebra can be!

If you are one of the many people who had trouble with algebra in school, and therefore you think that you lack math ability, this app will show you that you have more math ability than you think you have!

If you have a child of age 8 and up, you can provide that child with a successful algebra experience early on and eliminate the fear that many kids have when they go into algebra. Each lesson of the app comes with a video introduction; hence, your child may be able to learn this app without needing your assistance.

The app takes advantage of the mobile device's visual and touch features to demystify complex algebraic concepts. The physical version of Hands-On Equations has already helped more than a million students in grades 3 - 8 to obtain a foundation in algebra.

If several members of your family wish to use the app, it will keep track of the problems completed by each user.

The unknown, x, is represented by a blue pawn; the number constants, by number cubes. Each lesson focuses on one key concept.

In Lesson 1, the student mentally tries to figure out the value of the pawn that makes both sides balance by using reasoning or a guess-and-check strategy. The game pieces do not move in this first lesson.

In Lesson 2, the student places the game pieces unto the image of the balance scale to represent both sides of the algebraic equation and then solves by using guess and check.

In Lesson 3 - 6, the student learns strategies for solving equations, including performing "legal moves" by removing the same number of blue pawns or the same cube value from both sides of the balance scale.

An instructional video introduces each lesson. It is essential that you watch the video before attempting to solve the two examples that follow the video, and the ten exercises for that lesson.

If you need assistance solving an equation, you can write to info@borenson.com to receive an individualized response.

Hands-On Equations 1 consists of six lessons and one review lesson. There are more than 80 equations for the student to enjoy and solve!

Hands-On Equations is the ideal introduction to algebra for elementary and middle school students. Not only will these students have FUN, but also their sense of self-esteem will be dramatically enhanced as they experience success with sophisticated looking algebraic equations.

About the inventor: Dr. Henry Borenson has taught mathematics to inner-city low achieving students as well as to Math Olympiad students at the Stuyvesant High School in New York City. After receiving a patent for Hands-On Equations, he founded Borenson and Associates to disseminate the Hands-On Equations program and the Making Algebra Child's Play workshop for teachers.
